Rose is on her own and experiencing society in larger cities where she works as a telegraphers.

Personal Review:
Rose was an interesting young woman. If these books are based on what Rose’s life was really like and what it was actually like inside her mind, I’m not sure I would have been overly impressed with her choices.
And I’m not talking about the choices she made to get educated and work for a living instead of waiting around to get married. I mean the choices she made in her personal life, and how she was not great at communicating what was going on in her inner world.
My girls and I had a lot of conversations about how Rose could have possibly handled many situations better, particularly with Paul. We brainstormed several options and talked about the expectations of others and those that we put on ourselves. And about making wise decisions about life.
Of all the Little House series, Laura’s childhood years are definitely my favorite. Nothing can compare.
Content Warnings:
mentions of drinking alcohol, many late night excursions to go dancing
