Just a quick note inspired by my personal journaling…
I think sometimes we can get hung up on finding our purpose in this world. We all want to feel significant and to find that “one thing” that we know we were made to do.
While this can be helpful in some ways — maybe it encourages us to keep trying new things, for example — I suggest a different mindset about purpose.
When we think that we have to find our purpose, we may never feel satisfied or settled. With every new accomplishment we could still be asking ourselves, is this my life’s purpose? And if that one thing is ever taken from us, will we have no reason to go on living?
If our mindset shifts to living every day on purpose, suddenly we no longer have to search. Believing that we innately have significance means that each day can have meaning because we give it meaning.
Searching for purpose outside of ourselves will undoubtedly end in disappointment at some point.
Starting with the belief of internal worth (imparted by a loving God at creation) means we don’t have to find anything. We simply get to live it out.
